The bestselling series books of all time

A while back I wrote a post about the bestselling books of all time. As this was a list of non-series books, authors like J. K. Rowling didn’t make an appearance. I promised I would reveal the bestselling series books of all time in a future post. Here it is (there are A LOT of children’s books on the list – happy days!):

  1. Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling – 7 books in the series (sales of approximately 500 million)
  2. Goosebumps, R. L. Stine – 62 books (350 million)
  3. Perry Mason, Erle Stanley Gardner – 82 books (300 million sales)
  4. Berenstain Bears, Stan and Jan Berenstain – over 300 books (260 million)
  5. Choose Your Own Adventure, various authors – 185 books (250 million)
  6. Sweet Valley High, Francine Pascal – 400 books (250 million)
  7. Noddy, Enid Blyton – 24 books (200 million)
  8. Tintin, Herge – 24 books (200 million)
  9. Nancy Drew, various authors as Carolyn Keene – 175 books (200 million)
  10. The Railway Series (Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends), Rev. W. Awdry & Christopher Awdry (41, 200 million)
  11. San-Antonia, Frederic Dard (173, 200 million)
  12. The Babysitters Club, Ann Martin – 335 books (172 million)
  13. Star Wars, various authors – over 300 books (160 million)
  14. Peter Rabbit, Beatrix Potter – 6 books (150 million)
  15. Chicken Soup for the Soul, Jack Canfield & Mark Victor Hansen – 105 books (130 million)
  16. Frank Merriwell, Gilbert Patten – 209 books (125 million)
  17. Dirk Pitt, Clive Cussler – 19 books (120 million)
  18. Musashi, Eiji Yoshikawa – 7 books (120 million)
  19. American Girl, various authors (120 million)
  20. The Chronicles of Narnia, C. S. Lewis – 7 books (120 million)
  21. Mr Men, Roger Hargreaves & Adam Hargreaves – 43 books (120 million)
  22. Clifford the Big Red Dog, Normal Bridwell (110 million)
  23. James Bond, Ian Fleming – 14 books (100 million)
  24. Martine, Gilbert Delahaye & Marcel Marlier – 60 books (100 million)

You may be wondering where some of the classics are. Well, they didn’t make the list because they didn’t have sales of over 100 million. Pah! Here are a few of my favourites that didn’t make the list:

  1. Miffy, Dick Bruna – 199 books (85 million sales)
  2. Winnie-the-Pooh, A. A. Milne – 2 books (70 million)
  3. Paddington Bear, Michael Bond – 70 books (35 million)
