My Play Project is (drum roll please)…

Deciding on my Play Project for the 30 Day Challenge was tricky because I fancied doing 4 different things:

1. Creating prints of my art and selling them on this blog
2. Putting some characters I have designed onto t-shirts and greetings cards
3. Offering a free brainstorming service for people running, or thinking of running, their own business (I love love love brainstorming creative business ideas, book ideas, course ideas, marketing ideas…)
4. Telling the stories and secrets of people who have ‘found their spark’ i.e. people who truly, madly, deeply LOVE what they do for a living (I think I am in danger of becoming obsessed with this topic). Oh, and photographing them at ‘work’ (i.e. play).

After much umming and ahhing I decided to go with option 4 – because it excited and scared me the most!

Once I’d decided on my Play Project, the next step was to create a profile on the 30DC website and answer some questions.

Here’s what I wrote:

On the 30 March at 10pm I will be sharing the following with the community as the output of my project:
Interviews on my blog revealing the story of at least two people who absolutely adore what they do for a living, complete with photos showing them at work.

What excites me the most about this project is…
Getting to know people and what makes them tick (I’m nosy)…and taking unusual photos that capture the essence of that person and why they do what they do with such passion. 

What scares me the most about this project is…
I haven’t got a clue what I am doing! I’m OK with writing but interviewing people? Photographing them? I need an intensive crash course just to use my SLR. So this should be interesting…

I hereby commit to the 30 Day Challenge pledge because…
I have never taken my creativity seriously. I have spent years trying to figure out what to do with my life and I have tried all sorts of dead-end jobs, whilst studiously ignoring the little voice telling me I should really be doing something creative (namely writing + art/design/photography). I am fascinated (er…quite obsessed) with what people do for a living and why they choose to do what they do. And I quite fancy the idea of taking unusual portrait photos for people’s websites and blogs. I have other creative ideas I want to do too (sell some prints of my art / create a range of greetings cards etc) but this project seems the most exciting (and scary) so thought I’d start with this and see where it takes me…
